4th Sunday of every month from 2:00 – 3:00 pm
Middle Eastern dance, Raks Sharqi, or more commonly known as belly dance, is thought to be related to one of the oldest known dance forms. Steeped in history, you will be invited to explore this fun, graceful, and expressive dance. We will move to the wonderfully rhythmic sounds from Egypt and the Middle East, and explore the emotion and beauty of Middle Eastern dance and culture, while connecting to our bodies and learning to listen to our inner dancer. It is a misconception that only women belly dance, and we hope people of all genders and genderqueer folx join us!
Each class will cover some education on the dance and its origins, instruction in basic steps and combos, and then we will have our own micro hafla, or dance party. We will be able to practice what we learned, but more importantly, let loose our inner dancer.
Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in, socks if you don’t want to dance barefoot, a (re-usable) water bottle and a hip scarf if you have one. There will be extras available to borrow.
