“Seeking Awen”: A UU Adult Spiritual Retreat
Friday July 14th – Sunday July 16th

Please join fellowship members Heather Westley, Todd Grimm and Mary Ellyn Vicksta for an adult spiritual retreat in the Northwoods! This retreat will affirm our UU Principles of encouraging spiritual growth and respect for the interdependent web of all life. Awen is a druidic term for inspiration and blessing, which we will seek while diving fully into nature to uncover the great mysteries of the forest.

Cost for the weekend is $75/person which includes 4 meals, camping accommodations, and all retreat materials. If you are not a camper but want to attend, you can secure local lodging at your own expense. The retreat will center around immersing in nature on our 7-acre property about a 2-hour drive from Appleton. Free time Saturday afternoon to explore – hiking, kayaking, and swimming available nearby. Space is limited to 20 participants and local lodging will book early, so if you are interested, register soon. The registration deadline is June 30th and payment must be made to secure participation.

Location and Lodging:
The retreat will be held on private property near Townsend, WI (approximately a 2-hour drive from Appleton). Exact address provided after registration. The property is mostly wooded, and we have areas for tent camping either in the yard or in the woods. We do not have hookups for RVs/Campers, but there are local campgrounds that could accommodate that (registration and payment on your own). If you do not camp and would like to secure hotel/motel accommodations, contact Heather for a list of local lodging. Parking is available onsite but please consider carpooling. Please note we are 40 minutes from a hospital and the weekend will require moderate physical activity.

Meals:
Friday night dinner will be on your own – there are local bars/restaurants or kitchen facilities available, including a propane grill and tripod over the fire pit (no microwave available on the property). Four (4) meals are included: Saturday breakfast, Saturday lunch, Saturday dinner, and Sunday breakfast. We will work with registrants to accommodate food allergies and dietary styles.

Amenities:
We will have electricity available for charging phones and other minor needs. We have potable water. We will have a porta-potty available as well as indoor toilets (limited use). We will have an outdoor shower as well as limited indoor shower use. Minor First Aid kit available.

Program:
The property will be available from Friday, July 14th at 2:00 pm to Sunday, July 16th at 1:00 pm. The programming will start Friday at 7:00 pm and end Sunday at 10:00 am, including a Sunday Service. It is preferable to be in attendance for the entire program. There will be several workshops led by the retreat facilitators, as well as several hours of free time later in the evenings and Saturday afternoon. We will provide a list of area attractions for hiking, swimming, kayaking, etc.

The program theme is nature-based and will be held outdoors for the entire weekend. There is shelter from the sun/heat. The property has a trailer that can be used under emergency weather conditions.
