At this service, she will share the story of how she found the Fellowship, and the impact this community has made on her life. We will also recognize the ending of her ministry with a community ritual.

2020 has brought challenges that few of us were prepared for as we entered this year. Let’s consider what we want to lift up, as well as what we want to let go of, on this last Sunday of this year.

The Fellowship is adapting to try to keep people connected while staying physically distant, and we are finding both success and challenge. Many of us tie being Unitarian Universalist to our buildings and the events that happen within them, but it is so much bigger. I invite you to explore what that might look like in your life today, and into the possible long term future of this changed world.

by Marie Luna, Director of Congregational Life

There are many ways we can observe and celebrate the cycles and seasons of the earth, and some cycles that we have created ourselves, including how this culture marks New Year’s Eve. Following the seasons and the opportunities they give us to start over can be meaningful and often spiritual. Let’s talk about why this is important in so many cultures, and how we can start the 2020s with hope and healing.

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” —Howard Thurman
“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” ― Frederick Buechner

How do we find what makes us come alive? How do we name our deep gladness, or passion, in ways that help us give back? Some people take on too much to be effective, and others are immobilized by the enormity of the world’s needs and give up. Hear stories from Marie Luna, Dee Verkuilen and guest Mark Bernstein about how they found their own unique callings.

How does one find place? While living in many homes throughout Wisconsin, what has tied them together for me? I have realized it is a rather simple thing that helps me find my place, and I look forward to exploring this theme with worship leader and my co-parent, Brian Murton, who will talk about how our son has found his place at the Fellowship.

Warm. Welcoming. Open. Strong community. We have heard similar statements from newcomers since the early days. How have we held true to these core values when we had 100 members? 400? 700? Marie will share stories from her experiences as well as stories from some of our longest term members. We will also look ahead to the next chapter of our story, that includes a new settled senior minister and potentially a lot more new people looking for a community like ours.
